How to have a long-lasting relationship.

We are all in the pursuit of happiness in one way or another whether we realize it or not. Regardless of our situation, we are always looking to find happiness in every little bit of parameters of life whether it is in our relationships, job or family just to mention a few. One of the key components of happiness in life is the ability to have long lasting relationship that make sense and provide us with some sense of feeling of love which can translate into happiness altogether. Long lasting relationships are difficult to cultivate and there are a few reasons why. That notwithstanding, we need to find out how we can have a long lasting relationship regardless of the barriers and if the barriers exist, how we can overcome them and maintain a long fruitful and lasting relationship.
A long lasting relationship is cultivated, nurtured and nourished by both partners. Imagine a relationship like a small plant that needs to be watered, provided enough sunlight, provided with enough nutrients and protected from harmful factors such as pests and diseases. With such a comparison of a relationship to a plant, we can now safely say that a lot of work should be put in having a long lasting relationship. Some of the factors that can help in maintaining a long lasting relationship include:

Choosing the right partner
Who is the right partner and is there a way you can tell that a person is right for you and that you can have a long lasting relationship with them. Well in some sense it is a complex determination and hence at times it is easier to rely on your instincts and general feeling towards someone especially your partner. Compatibility plays a major role in determining whether a companion is right for you. If you have the same goals, ambitions, like the same thing, and probably have some similar characteristics, then it is a sure bet that you can have a long lasting relationship with that person. This does not mean that compatibility is the only factor to consider. This is but one of the many factors when combined can cultivate a long lasting relationship. After all who would have a relationship with someone that they are not compatible with?

Communication
Taken very lightly in relationships, this is probably the most important factor to consider when you want to have a long lasting relationship with your partner. Communication involves how you talks and how you express your feelings, emotions, ideas as well as opinions to someone. The mere fact that communication is the biggest destroyer of relationships has not really hit home with most people in relationships. Failure to have a communication channel between spouses, partners and even family members cause a lot of relationships breakdown. Open, regular and direct communication is highly encouraged for people who wish to have healthy long lasting relationships.
Honesty
Virtues in relationships are really important in maintaining a healthy relationship. Honesty does not just imply to the partner, it also encompasses honesty within oneself. Understanding yourself is a key in creating good relationships as well. When you are honest to yourself it generally but not implicitly becomes easier to be honest to your partner. Honesty involves sharing of frustration, listening, being truthful and always sharing. These qualities of honesty really makes it easier for one to trust another and hence ensures that a relationship is strengthened.

Commitment
Long lasting relationships always have the distinct characteristic of commitment. Commitment levels really ensure that relationships are strong, firm and unshakable to say the very least. This means that when one is committed to a relationship, they are willing to work towards making the relationship work. In tough times, commitment comes in handy since a committed partner will always be willing to work things out for the benefit of the relationship and partners as well. High levels of commitment have a power effect on levels of trust and even fosters strong and healthy relationships.

Compromise
This is probably the most difficult of characteristics to attain for people in a relationship. First people need to understand that in a relationship, the partakers are very different in the way they think, view the world and see things. Therefore it is very important to accept this fact that we are all different and we are not the same. Realizing this is the first step in adopting compromise. Compromise does not mean that one has to lower their standards in order to accommodate those who cannot raise theirs. It is all about realizing that all that we need to do in a relationship is shed away our egotistical nature and learn to compromise by having that will to take a step forward to solve issues, communicate and even change behaviors for the betterment of the relationship. Whoever said this is an easy task must be an outright liar since this is probably the hardest of tasks to achieve. With compromise, a relationship can always be gunning to reach new heights and escape troubles with ease hence making it stronger, healthier and last long.

These are just but a few ways in which one can ensure that they have a long lasting relationship. A lot of other factors are still very viable depending on the situation at hand and the partners in the relationship. Other than that, a long lasting relationship is the work of both parties and is always a collective effort that brings joy, happiness and health to those who attain it.

Time flies and welcomes exams.

If ever there was a time to realize that time flies, it’s now. Well, the stores are not doing any of us favor when they brand their polyethene bags with Christmas trees or the mall putting up Christmas lights. Yes, the year is almost coming to a close and this is the only time we can realize that time flies. In January, we were all wondering how the year will punch us right back. Remember trying to come up with some list of things we’d like to change. How many have we achieved so far? Time is given in equal measure and quantity. If ever there was a gift more powerful than time, then all would be in vain. Many sayings have been coined with time. “Time is money”, “give time time”, “time waits for no man” and so many more. They all mean the same. That time is a very important aspect of life and we really need to understand this. In all its measure and wonder, we are still yet to fathom its meaning let alone its discipline. Philosophy aside, this post was dedicated to the ...
