It’s a craze out there. Business is no longer just business anymore. In this 21st Century, we have seen a revolution that has powered business beyond the realms of the normal. We have seen business move with technology to a point that we cannot differentiate the two anymore. How has software taken over business? How has business evolved? These are some of the questions that we might ask ourselves.
Let’s take a look at some few thriving businesses and see what they have in common. Entrepreneurs remind themselves everyday of these companies and they live to be like them. So what does AirBnB, Facebook, Netflix, Alibaba, Instagram and Uber have in common? Simple, AirBnB which is the largest accommodation provider owns no real estate, Facebook which is the most popular media provides no content, Netflix which is the largest growing television network lays no cables, Alibaba which is the most valuable retailer has no inventory, Instagram which is the most valuable photo company sells no cameras and Uber which is the largest taxi company owns no vehicles. So when did companies start to become so successful without the traditional owning of inventory or manufacturing something. Answer is, technology.
Take Uber for example. The taxi business industry was flourishing prior to the entry of Uber as a service. Uber did not offer anything different in the taxi industry. It offered transportation which was not as different as what the normal taxi’s offered. I imagine that they sat down and thought of how they could transform the normal drivers into taxi operators and it worked out well for them. This is the same for the other companies as well who have found a footing in the services they offer.
Software has been the avenue of these uprising companies and they have taken full advantage of the flexibility and diversity it has to offer. All of the companies that were listed above have applications that run their businesses successfully. Whether it is on a user’s phone or on their pc. How business has been linked with software is marvelous and this has made new entrants into the field ever more encouraged.
Other aspects of business have also seen the light and moved from their traditional strategies to the software way. Marketing has also seen some major change. Remember how email marketing worked? One was required to code the outline of the email and curate the content. Then an excel sheet of emails where you had to copy and paste each one of them into Gmail. Hectic is the word I recall. Now with the introduction of software like MailChimp that does just that, curate emails and send them out in bulk is the new trend. Not only in emails have we seen software and business integrating. Customer service has now been pushed into the software way. Talk of bots that are able to help you with issues in a software. With software and business, the possibilities are endless.
We envision a world that is taken into stride with technology and business. Where services merge with technology to offer more to the consumers without the hustle. Companies are now taking advantage of the ease of reaching their consumers through the use of technology. With this kind of advancement, there is no looking back. We are looking forward to integrating software into our everyday life. This interdependence is very vital in improving our lives let alone the economy and therefore we should embrace the very essence of it.
Software and business have become one and there is no doubt that the future holds bright to those who embrace technology rather than those who shun it. It’s as simple as “if you can’t beat them, join them.”
