8 Simple Ways To Classroom Collaboration

The Collaborative Classroom is a model that honors all teachers and supports all students with intentional, field-tested practices that create safe environments. In Collaborative Classrooms, teachers facilitate an authentic exchange of ideas and children learn to become caring, principled people as well as thoughtful, disciplined learners. Teachers who use the Collaborative Classroom model make an intentional shift from having a classroom where they do the majority of the talking to constructing a learning situation and then facilitating it through student thinking and talking. Teachers are increasingly using digital tools to stay ahead of today’s digitally literate students. Here are eight ways they’re harnessing technology for collaborating with students, both in the classroom and online: 1. Digital Projectors – A LCD projector allows teachers to share digital content with students. The beauty of the digital projector is its versatility—it works with any digital ...

Time flies and welcomes exams.

If ever there was a time to realize that time flies, it’s now. Well, the stores are not doing any of us favor when they brand their polyethene bags with Christmas trees or the mall putting up Christmas lights. Yes, the year is almost coming to a close and this is the only time we can realize that time flies. In January, we were all wondering how the year will punch us right back. Remember trying to come up with some list of things we’d like to change. How many have we achieved so far? Time is given in equal measure and quantity. If ever there was a gift more powerful than time, then all would be in vain. Many sayings have been coined with time. “Time is money”, “give time time”, “time waits for no man” and so many more. They all mean the same. That time is a very important aspect of life and we really need to understand this. In all its measure and wonder, we are still yet to fathom its meaning let alone its discipline. Philosophy aside, this post was dedicated to the ...

Let us all communicate.

Campus life is fazed by a myriad of activities. Everyday something new comes up and we always have to keep up with it. It’s very difficult in this time and age to know what is happening all around you. We are so engrossed in our mobile phones that at times life can just pass us by without noticing. We are either double tapping or scrolling. This is an outcry of how communication has been thrown out of the gutter because of these merciless phones that do not give people the chance to speak to each other. Ever sat down after meeting new people and felt out of place the second you introduced yourself. Not because you met new people but because you could not talk to anyone after since everyone was on their phones seemingly busy enough not to engage you in a talk. I wonder, really where did we go wrong in terms of communicating? Is it because we find it easier communicating with people who are not in close proximity or is it because it is easier texting than saying words? I sometim...

Call My Wife- The other side of the story

In the advent of tele marketing, apps, websites and all the technological advancements, we still do heavily rely on the traditional method of finding houses. That is, walking around looking for the “TO LET” sign. Indeed, looking for a house has never been an easy affair and that is why I have dedicated this article in helping you know the other side of the story. Also, I will define con men who are out there to swindle you when you are most vulnerable. Looking for a house is as depressing as ever especially when you are desperate. The rule of the thumb is that, when you want something, do not want it desperately because chances are you are going to get a raw deal. So first things first. You know you need to move out of your house for a variety of reasons that I probably could not mention in this post alone. You have identified the characteristics of the house you wish to now occupy. Just to mention a few, cheaper, more bedrooms, more bathrooms, a compound, security and the lis...

The Life of a Campus Student

First year is always a haze. From all the excitement, buzz, zeal and generally fast paced activities, a first year is always a “fresha.” Fresh out of high school, still thinking of how university is an escape into a free world. Freedom is the first thing that they envision. Imagination takes the best of them considering they spent more than four months watching movies about sororities and all, so they come expecting that the hostels in campus will be all fun and games. The first shocker comes in when you are required to be bunk mates with other guys you hardly know. In high school, I bet it was easy to just walk around in your towel and rush to dry bath, however in campus, it gets difficult somehow. Probably because the girls’ hostel is just nearby and one or two will always come by the shower and stare at your bones. The booze, parties, night outs, meetups and what have you. Freedom is what they cried for and they get it in abundance. They go out when they want and only when...

Revolution of Business and Software.

It’s a craze out there. Business is no longer just business anymore. In this 21 st Century, we have seen a revolution that has powered business beyond the realms of the normal. We have seen business move with technology to a point that we cannot differentiate the two anymore. How has software taken over business? How has business evolved? These are some of the questions that we might ask ourselves. Let’s take a look at some few thriving businesses and see what they have in common. Entrepreneurs remind themselves everyday of these companies and they live to be like them. So what does AirBnB, Facebook, Netflix, Alibaba, Instagram and Uber have in common? Simple, AirBnB which is the largest accommodation provider owns no real estate, Facebook which is the most popular media provides no content, Netflix which is the largest growing television network lays no cables, Alibaba which is the most valuable retailer has no inventory, Instagram which is the most valuable photo compan...

Think for Yourself, Don’t be Sheep

Promises delivered by politicians are normally not very  far-fetched . They are very achievable and yet we wonder why they still cannot keep their word. Is it because they just needed our votes to walk in high places, be regarded as someone important or to get that fat pay check? I think, all of the above.  Politicians in the very sense of it can be called as many names as we deem necessary but we all agree that they attempt to lead people to think in a certain direction. This is power. I call it power because people listen when they speak. People follow when they lead. People fight for them. People almost worship them. Is this not power? I believe in politicians being leaders who can influence people to think in a certain way, behave differently and change their opinions and believe something new. So what really makes the politicians amass followings of great masses and have  die-hard  fans eating and drinking their words? It is the way they talk...

Change is inevitable. Change is constant.

Stagnancy is not healthy. This is the part of no change, where we remain as we were without significant results or improvement. A wise man once said, “If you stay on the right track for too long, you might end up being hit by the train.” So what is change really, and what effect does it have on us? Change is making something different from what it is currently. From this simple definition, we can confer that change can happen anywhere and in anything. So, there is internal change and external change. Internal change as the name suggests is all about our emotions, feelings and behavior, things that cannot be measured by scale or quantified. On the other hand, external change is anything that can be quantified on the outside. Change is important at times because it fosters more creativity. Designers for example love change. Why? They simply get bored of seeing the same thing all over again and this encourages them to come up with something different. Change gives us a differe...

A FRESH START.

Having to leave what you understood most and trying to figure out a way to start all over again is almost as hard as finding a leprechaun in the rainbow. We figured that it would be a relief to have a new start and reflect on what we learned. The finish line has never seemed so far away. It is really amazing when you think you have made enough of a stride only to realize that you had only made baby steps. At times you would think that the world is against you.  Troubles fly in one after the other regardless of the kind of preparation you think you have done. Talking of troubles, tribulations and all that mess that is thrown to your face and you as all before you, have to handle it regardless of the outcome. It is at times frustrating, disheartening and most of all killer of spirits when you feel you can’t handle what has been thrown at you. So all in all, we at times yearn for that fresh start.  That rejuvenation of mind that assures us that all is well or bette...
